Cherish Our Children
Cherish Our Children is a congregation-based ministry of prayer, education, relationship-building, and action to implement the ELCA Message on Commercial Sexual Exploitation. Our synod seeks to have half of all 211 congregations trained in Cherish Our Children by 2010.
Components:
Leadership— Each congregation selects a core team of people to lead the project made up of a leader, prayer coordinator, two education coordinators, and two special project coordinators.
Prayer— Core team in intentional prayer for 40 days with Cherish Prayers implemented; this is intentional prayer by a specific adult for a specific child
Education— Use Wise as Serpents with junior high confirmation students and their parents, and hold at least two educational sessions for senior high youth and two for adults. The Pastor preaches two sermons which incorporates the system of sexual exploitation.
An internet safety training class will be held for parents.
Special Projects— Develop a relationship with an organization that provides services to homeless, runaway, or prostituted youth, as well as develop a relationship with an organization that focuses on the ministry of children and youth.
