Our Faith
in Action

God's work. Our hands. Whether we are
supporting feeding stations for hungry children
in Malawi or taking a casserole to a neighbor
in a time of need, we believe it is our
responsibility to help others.

Mission Support

Mission support is the portion of financial offerings from members of the ELCA that is shared for synodical and churchwide mission and ministries beyond the local congregation. Mission support helps to fund ministry partners both domestically and around the world including campus ministry, several social organizations, missionaries across the globe, colleges, universities and seminaries of our church, and outdoor camping ministries, just to name a few. These offerings provide over 80 percent of the resources that are used to fund ministries that we do together within the ELCA.

Global Mission

The Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20) emphasizes God's call to us to share the good news of Jesus Christ in word and deed. "Global mission" refers to the ways we respond to God’s call to mission beyond our local congregations. We reach out to others through evangelism, witness, education, promotion of justice, service, relief and development across the globe.

Cherish Our Children

Cherish Our Children is a congregation-based ministry of prayer, education, relationship-building, and action to implement the ELCA Message on Commercial Sexual Exploitation. Our synod seeks to have half of all 211 congregations trained in Cherish Our Children by 2010.

Components:

Leadership— Each congregation selects a core team of people to lead the project made up of a leader, prayer coordinator, two education coordinators, and two special project coordinators.

Prayer— Core team in intentional prayer for 40 days with Cherish Prayers implemented; this is intentional prayer by a specific adult for a specific child

Education— Use Wise as Serpents with junior high confirmation students and their parents, and hold at least two educational sessions for senior high youth and two for adults. The Pastor preaches two sermons which incorporates the system of sexual exploitation. An internet safety training class will be held for parents.

Special Projects— Develop a relationship with an organization that provides services to homeless, runaway, or prostituted youth, as well as develop a relationship with an organization that focuses on the ministry of children and youth.
